At around age 3, both Jason and Jonnie can play simple melody by ear on a keyboard. It didn’t surprise me as I can play by ear since I was a child too. I also thought that the ability to play melody by ear is common.
When Jonnie was 5, we sent him to learn piano from our neighbour. Julie is a wonderful young lady who teaches piano at her parents’ home on a part-time basis. Julie and I have common objectives - to bring music to children’s life for enjoyment and let them have a sense of fulfilment.
In the last 3 years, under the guidance of Julie, Jonnie showed he actually thrives on challenges. We compiled some of the little milestones that he had accomplished in the last few years.
Jonnie is now 8 years old. So what is next?
As parents, we are always in the journey of discovering and learning. I guess our role is to grow together with our children and be guided by them. After discussing and gotten the blessing from teacher Julie, we decided to let Jonnie pursue higher level of learning from an experienced Professor and let her lead the way.
Today marks the start of the new chapter in his piano journey
